DEVELOPING COMMUNITIES IN RURAL AREAS OF GUATEMALA.

April 25, 2023
We are very proud present as the feature guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Huntsville meeting on April 19, 2023. Thank you to the Club for your major donations and ongoing support that makes our projects come to life. We have already bee able to help so many local people in Guatemala, and we have many more plans in store! A summary of the presentation below. Introduction to Adrian Musters. Adrian opened by introducing our esteemed guests who are working with him on the Optimum Services Project in Jocotan, Guatemala. They include local surgeon Dr Hector Roldan; Guatemalan Manager Jaun Carlos Vasquez and local photographer and archeologist Bruce Templeton. The Club has been supporting this long term project for a couple of years. Having Adrian on the ground has been a major asset. The final project will include a dental clinic, a medical clinic and a school. At this point the dental clinic is up an operating, primarily due to a major donation of dental equipment from a retired dentist in Texas, among others. The region is very poor and have no facilities like this within their Province. Our donations so far have allowed them to install an air conditioning system in the Clinic and build two washrooms. Adrian has been down once before to perform various dental procedures and will be travelling back there in mid May and mid November. At that time it is expected that local professionals will be able to take over and run the clinic. The next phase will see the construction of the Medical Clinic which will house a day surgery type facility, an endoscopy room along with patient exam rooms. Dr Roldan will lead this phase of the project. Juan Carlos is the man on the ground who has worked tirelessly to access funds through charitable givings and supporting Dr Musters and Dr Roldan. One of the most attractive aspects of the project is the educational component. Dr Roldan is working with local medical students and students from our area medical school NOSUM to give hands on experience, while supporting this special clinic. Along side this phase the second school building will be built. The first building is already up and the plan is the build a similar second arm with a covered sports facility between the two wings. As part of the project a water filtration system was erected and in addition to having safe drinking water for their purposes the clinic will be able to provide for surrounding residents. All in all the project is a major accomplishment to date and with the energy of the team leaders should be something that our club can follow and support into the future.

After 10+ years we are officially up and running! The dental clinic is now open and serving patients from Jocot án and Camotan, Guatemala. It is so exciting and rewarding to see all of our hard work and dedication pay off. We couldn't have done it without the entire OSO team, thank you for your volunteer efforts and belief in our project. Much gratitude goes out to every single person who donated to make this dream a reality, your support has led us here. This facility will make a huge difference in the lives of people living in rural Guatemala. But we aren't finished yet... there is more work to be done and ongoing maintenance to uphold for the clinic. Please consider donating to our cause so we can continue to serve these under served communities.

Fundraising Campaign Goal By donating today you can help us with our mission to provid e safety and stability for the Asmen Family. Our mission is to build a home for this father and six children in rural Jocotán. You can help us provide them with a healthier life and a brighter future. The Story OSO has been developing a piece of property in rural Jocotán, Guatemala and building modern building complexes to house a non-profit medical centre and dental clinic, as well as an elementary/high school/adult schoolhouse. These facilities will help to complement the deficiencies and support the existing Guatemalan infrastructure. Leonidas Asmen takes care of the OSO property by providing day-to-day maintenance, 24/7 security, and completing light construction/building projects. Leonidas and his six children currently live nearby inside of a used shipping container that was outfitted to be a shelter but had very limited facilities. OSO recently moved the Asmen Family into one of the new buildings on the OSO development site to temporarily house them in a more secure, healthy and safe environment. Our goal is to build them a more suitable home on the OSO property that will have water and the necessary facilities for a family to live comfortably. Leonidas will continue to help OSO maintain the property and building complexes, while his children will continue attending school and helping out their father with the day to day family chores. You can help us provide them with a healthier life and a brighter future. Donate today!
